	Checking for pain or discomfort
	Checking the jaw joints
	Analysing jaw joints
	Assessing the soft tissues for infections or other conditions
	Oral cancer checks
	Confirmation that previous dental work is satisfactory
	Recording measurements of the gums to assess for gum disease
	Cross infection control (sterilisation and disinfection of treatment room and instruments)
	Treatment planning and note taking
	Examination of teeth for decay
